Step By Step Guide To Credit Repair
By Jason Uvios
It is upon detection of poor or adverse credit in your credit report that credit repair steps are to be taken up. This is indicated by a below average credit sore as obtained from your credit report. If you are a holder of adverse credit then you will be either unable to secure loans or will be able to beget loans with more difficult conditions. This is because adverse credit is perceived by almost all lenders as undesirable. So, you need to strive to overcome the situation. By following the right steps and with some perseverance you can expect to mend your bad credit situation to a great extent.

Firstly, you need to get hold of a free annual copy of your credit report as provided by the three credit rating agencies of national significance. You need to check for any erroneous entries of account numbers or inclusion of accounts not actually held by you. This is very important since it has been reported that 80% of credit reports do actually contain some kind of error.

Secondly, you need to make sure that you pay your bills on time. Late payments i.e. payments made after 30 days or more carry negative connotations. Thirdly, you need to reduce the number of credit cards carried by you by writing to the creditors concerned to close down old accounts which you feel are unnecessary. The changed status of your accounts is to be reported to the credit reporting agencies for them to take note of.

Fourthly, you can get the credit limits on your account reduced by writing to the creditors. Thus, your available

credit amount will be lowered. In an effort to reestablish credit a family member of friend may be asked to co-sign on a loan or credit. You need to make timely payments towards this.

Fifthly, it is suggested that you get a secured credit card and keep a designated amount of money in the corresponding account. This amount should be sufficient to cover your charges. Making timely payments in this newly created account will help reestablish your credit over time.

Finally, you need take care to avoid bankruptcies, tax liens and collections. These are the things which remain in your credit report for a period of seven years or more (up to ten years in the case of bankruptcies) thus giving negative indications. Avoiding them and following the various measures mentioned in the steps above will go a long way to improve your credit over time.
